Local history is inseparable from the parish of Xhignesse, founded in medieval times and closely linked to the Stavelot Abbey. Its Romanesque church, the Church of Saint-Pierre de Xhignesse, built in the 11th century, is a jewel of Mosan Romanesque art and is today part of the

The legacy of Jean Del Cour
Hamoir is also the birthplace of the famous Baroque sculptor Jean Del Cour (1631-1707), whose major works adorn many buildings in Belgium.

In Hamoir, admire the bronze Virgin and Child on Place Del Cour and the oak doors of the church tabernacle.
